Operation Rainbow has historically been involved in both reconstructive facial and orthopedic care for indigent children.
Although primarily focused on providing orthopedic surgeries in impoverished countries, Operation Rainbow pursues partnerships that broaden our ability to serve needy children around the world.
We are proud to be affiliated with Carle Foundation Hospital, a not-for-profit regional care hospital in Urbana, IL and the William S. Johnson Memorial Fund at Carle Foundation. Carle Foundation Hospital is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. We also work with teams from New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, in providing support for these trips.
The volunteer group includes dedicated surgeons and medical professionals committed to providing surgical and medical care to children and others by performing reconstructive surgeries, including repair of congenital cleft lip and palate deformities, as well as treatment of other maxillofacial anomalies and burns.
The team consists of surgeons, anthesiologists, anesthetists, speech pathologists, medical students, nurses, trained laypersons, and coordinators. Since its founding affiliation with Operation Rainbow, this team has conducted 1-2 medical campaigns annually, working primarily in Central and South America, Mexico and the Philippines. Operation Rainbow is pleased to have been affiliated with this group throughout the 20-year history. The teams have treated more than 1500 patients over the past two decades.
Operation Rainbow and its affiliates are separately and independently funded. For more information about our reconstructive surgical affiliate, please contact the medical director and coordinator, Martin Hill, DDS, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
